A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF CUTLER BAY, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE TOWN MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN INTERNSHIP COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT WITH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS
On January 15, 2014 the Town Council approved an Educational Compact Agreement (Attachment "A") via Resolution No. 14-03, with goals to further develop specific recommendations as outlined in the Educational Compact Agreement with Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
Immediately thereafter, Town staff met with principals and teachers of Cutler Bay Senior High School in order to discuss the potential possibilities of a Student Internship Partnership Program within the Town. Similar internship partnerships have been established as a result of the Education Compact Agreement which include the following governmental agencies: Miami-Dade County, City of Miami, City of Miami Gardens, City of North Miami Beach, Village of Pinecrest, City of Miami Beach and City of North Miami. The Miami-Dade County Public Schools Internship Program has been in existence since 1958 and has provided great opportunities for high school students attending Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
On August 20, 2014, the Town Council approved the Internship Cooperative Agreement with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (Attachment "B") via Resolution No. 14-57, establishing the Town's inaugural iPrep Executive Internship Program for academic year 2014-15. The program allows students from Cutler Bay Senior High School a "hands on" experience interning in various Town Departments throughout the academic year.
