BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS

Funding Source: Florida Department of Environmental Protection
Project Title: Saga Bay 1.7 Sub-basin Water Quality Improvement Project
Amount Awarded: $600,000.00 Match Required: $355,539.00

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's (FDEP) State Water Quality Assistance Grant Program provides funding to local governments for projects that control water pollution from non-point sources and land use activities, including Stormwater Improvement Projects.

On April 29, 2020, the Town of Cutler Bay (the "Town) submitted a grant application requesting funding on behalf of the Public Works Department. The Town proposes stormwater retrofitting in the 33.4-acre Saga Bay 1.7 Sub-Basin to improve drainage and water quality in the Saga Bay neighborhood. Drainage improvements will protect the impaired Black Creek Waterbody (WBID#3298) by constructing catch basins with sediment traps and pollution retardant baffles, installing approximately 260 LF of 18" Pipe, and 1,244 LF of French Drain. Although the grant does not require matching funds, the Town is responsible for any cost above the $600,000 grant award, and the Town estimates this match to be $355,539.00 based on engineering cost estimates.
