Project Title: Cutler Bay Wetland Habitat Restoration
Amount Awarded: $20,000.00 Match Required: $20,000 (cash/in-kind)
The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's ("NFWF") Five-Star and Urban Waters Restoration Grant Program seeks to develop community capacity to sustain local natural resources for future generations by providing modest financial assistance to diverse local partnerships focused on improving water quality, watersheds and the species and habitats they support (www.nfwf.org).
On January 30, 2020, the Town of Cutler Bay (the "Town") submitted a grant application requesting funding for the Cutler Bay Wetland Habitat Restoration Project (the "Project"). The Project seeks to further the Town's conservation efforts by creating an environmental learning lab alongside the Biscayne Bay Coastal Wetlands near SW 184 Street and Old Cutler Road.
The Town will engage forty (40) volunteers to improve and enhance the 2-acre upland area with native trees, plants and shrubs in addition to establishing a walking path with educational signage promoting the conservation of the adjoining wetlands, pine rock lands and the sensitive ecology of Biscayne Bay.
