BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS
In 1998, the State of Florida contracted with and provided funding to each of the counties within the State to develop a Local Mitigation Strategy ("LMS"). Shortly thereafter, a working group was developed, in order to identify a variety of mitigation related projects throughout Miami-Dade County (the "County") and all the incorporated municipalities at that time. Several projects were identified within the Town's municipal boundaries, which were included in the unincorporated County-wide project listing. Town Staff participates in quarterly LMS working group meetings and submits mitigation project updates on an annual basis.
The Town has completed the Stormwater Master Plan, which has identified several flood related projects that can be included in the 2020 County LMS. Once the Town's identified projects are formally included in the County's LMS Plan, grant funding will become available from both the State of Florida and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
On August 26, 2020, the Florida Division of Emergency Management ("FDEM") provided a determination that the County's LMS Plan submission is compliant with federal standards and requires formal community adoption from municipalities within the County (Attachment "A").
