BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS
Neat Streets Miami is a Miami-Dade County (the “County”) board dedicated to the maintenance and beautification of transportation gateways, corridors, and connections. Neat Street Miami’s Million Trees Miami campaign has a goal of 1 million trees planted and 30 percent tree canopy coverage throughout the County by 2020. In order to reach this goal, Street Trees Matching Grant Program (the “Program”), funded by Miami-Dade County, engages municipalities, non-profits, and community organizations in planting native or Florida-friendly trees on the County’s corridors and gateways.
On November 15, 2019, the Town submitted a grant application requesting funding on behalf of the Public Works Department to Neat Streets Miami for the Cutler Bay Street Tree Reforestation Project. The Program awarded the Town a $16,325.00 matching grant (“Grant”) to plant approximately 75 Florida Native shade trees in Town parks and on public right-of-way of various local roads throughout the Town. These trees will replace those lost during Hurricane Irma. The required matching funds will come from the Public Works Department’s 2019-2020 budget.
RECOMMENDATION
Town Staff recommends that the attached Resolution be adopted, accepting the Program Grant from Neat Streets Miami for $16,325.00, approving the subsequent agreement for the Grant with the County, and authorizing the Town Manger to execute the agreement.
