REQUEST

A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF CUTLER BAY, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING AN URBAN AND COMMUNITY FORESTRY MATCHING GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $10,000; APPROVING A FEDERAL FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE SUBRECIPIENT AGREEMENT WITH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES; PROVIDING FOR AUTHORIZATION; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

Grant Title: 2018 National Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program (FDACS Contract No.025959) ("Grant")

Amount Awarded: $10,000.00 Required Match: $10,000.00 (cash/ in-kind)


On November 5, 2018, the Town of Cutler Bay submitted a grant proposal to FDACS to support the "Cutler Bay Reforestation Project" ("Project"). This proposal was submitted with the approval of the Mayor and Town Council pursuant to Resolution #18-80. On January 22, 2019, the Town received notification that the grant was approved for $10,000.00 (Attachment "A"). The Town is required to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with FDACS in order to receive the funding.



The purpose of the Grant program is to cooperate with local governments to promote the planting and protection of trees to improve the livability of urban environments within the State of Florida. The Town has worked diligently to follow the goals and objectives of its adopted Master Tree Plan and has succeeded in being designated a "Tree City" each year since 2009. The Town has also earned the Tree Growth Award each year since 2012. This has been accomplished by aggressively securing and planting trees throughout the Town owned swales and right-of-way.
