A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF CUTLER BAY, FLORIDA, ADOPTING AND IMPLEMENTING THE COMMUNITIES FOR A LIFETIME AGE-FRIENDLY ACTION PLAN; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS
In March 2016, pursuant to Resolution No. 16-10, the Town proudly became the first municipality in South Florida to join the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities (the “Network”). The Network is an affiliate of the World Health Organization’s Age-Friendly Cities and Communities Program, an international effort launched in 2006 to help cities prepare for rapid population aging and the parallel trend of urbanization. As a member of the Network, the Town was required to develop a three (3) year action plan that is approved by the AARP and the World Health Organization by 2018.
The purpose of the action plan is to identify opportunities to integrate age-friendly principles into all aspects of the Town’s planning and service delivery. Town Staff, in collaboration with our Communities for a Lifetime (“CFAL”) Committee and the Town Manager as the CFAL Committee Liaison, hosted monthly public meetings, reviewed the Town’s Senior Needs Assessment and Strategic Master Plan, and worked in coalition with the Miami-Dade Age-Friendly Initiative to collect additional survey data which was used to develop the Age-Friendly Action Plan 2018-2021 (“Plan”).
This living document is comprised of eight (8) Domains of Livability:
I. Outdoor Spaces and Buildings
II. Transportation
III. Housing
IV. Social Participation
V. Respect and Social Inclusion
VI. Civic Participation and Employment
VII. Communication and Information
VIII. Community and Health Services
Within each domain, the Committee identified individual goals. Within each goal, there are identified objectives, activities, resources needed, and metrics of success.
The Town received notification from the AARP that the Plan was approved on Friday, September 21, 2018. The next step is for the Town to adopt the Plan.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Mayor and Town Council approve the attached Resolution adopting the Town of Cutler Bay CFAL Age-Friendly Action Plan.
