BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS

On June 15, 2017, the Town of Cutler Bay (the "Town") Council adopted Resolution No. 16-35, urging the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Words (the "DTPW") to conduct a traffic study along the S.W. 87th Avenue corridor between S.W. 184th Street and S.W. 244th Street (Attachment "A"). In response to Resolution No. 16-35, the DTPW conducted a traffic study and, on March 9, 2018, advised the Town that DTPW would reduce the speed limit on S.W. 87th Avenue between Old Cutler Road and S.W. 244th Street from 40 MPH to 35 MPH and install appropriate signs to reflect the new speed limit.

The Town continues to be concerned that the speed limit in the corridor of S.W. 87th Avenue between Old Cutler Road and S.W. 244th Street is unnecessarily high, and that the speed limit should be further lowered to 30 MPH to protect pedestrians, cyclists, and wildlife. This segment of road along SW 87th Avenue owned and maintained by Miami-Dade County. Although, SW 87th Avenue is a major roadway within the Town, it consists of single and multifamily homes, parks, mixed use non-motorized trails, share the road bike lanes, and two (2) public schools.
