A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF CUTLER BAY, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING A GRANT FROM THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED PERSONS (AARP) FOR THE INSTALLATION OF UNIVERSALLY ACCESSIBLE OUTDOOR FITNESS EQUIPMENT; PROVIDING FOR AUTHORIZATION; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
body.
BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS

On July 25, 2017, the Town responded to the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Community Challenge Grant opportunity (Attachment A: Cutler Bay AARP Grant Application). AARP is investing nearly $780,000 to create change and improve the quality of life for people of all ages in communities across the nation. During the first AARP Community Challenge cycle, AARP received almost 1,200 applications nationwide, resulting in a highly competitive selection process. Of these 1,200 applications, 88 grantees were selected, and the Town is proud to be one of the inaugural grantees (http://www.aarp.org/livable-communities/about/info-2017/aarp-community-challenge.html).

The Town has been awarded $15,000 to install up to nine (9) pieces of universally accessible outdoor fitness equipment at one of the Town's Parks. The fitness circuit will accommodate older adults and individuals with disabilities. Town Staff has identified the equipment, and two potential configurations. Town Staff will seek input from the Town's Communities for a Lifetime (CFAL) Advisory Committee to determine the design and type of equipment that will be installed. The CFAL Committee will also recommend park locations for the installation. The project must be completed by November 1, 2017.
RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Town Council approve the attached Resolution.
