A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF CUTLER BAY, FLORIDA, APPROVING SUPERIOR PARK SYSTEMS, INC. FOR THE INSTALLATION OF A SINGLE BASKETBALL COURT AT SAGA BAY PARK; PROVIDING FOR WAIVER OF COMPETITIVE BIDDING; PROVIDING FOR AUTHORIZATION; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS

The Town of Cutler Bay's Strategic Master Plan 2014-2019, Goal # 7 states "a well-developed park and recreation system will improve the overall quality of life; create a positive sense of Town identity among our residents and increase property values." In order to continue providing Town residents with functional facilities and amenities, the Town will offer a wide range of recreational opportunities that can be used by all to include new basketball courts. The single basketball court will be installed at Saga Bay Park (Attachment "A") which will make good use of open space by creating more activities for fitness.

At the Town Manager's request, the Parks and Recreation Department solicited installation information from qualified vendors, and three (3) written quotes were obtained (Attachment "B"). Superior Park Systems, Inc. provided the lowest cost estimate of $47,325.00. Chapter 24, Article II of the Town Code allows for Town staff to obtain bids from qualified vendors for purchases of $25,000 or more. The Town Manager is requesting a waiver of the formal competitive bid process since Town Staff has already secured three (3) written quotes and recommended the company that provided the lowest quote; Superior Park Systems.

Funding for the proposed new playground equipment will be funded by the Town's Park Impact Fees.
