A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF CUTLER BAY, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE TOWN MANAGER TO EXPEND FUNDS FOR THE REIMBURSEMENT OF TRAVEL COSTS FOR COMMITTEE MEMBERS; PROVIDING FOR IMPLEMENTATION; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS
Advisory Committee Members play an essential and vital role in the Town as they provide strategic advice to the Mayor and Town Council for services and activities. Section 3.9 of the Town Charter authorizes the Town Council to establish boards, agencies and/or committees as it deems advisable. The Committee Members serve as volunteers, which are appointed by the Town Council via Resolution. Committee Members are tasked to provide the Council the most updated and current information regarding their committee’s objectives. In order to provide the most current best practices, Committee Members may need to attend educational trainings and conferences that would allow the Committee Members to continue learning and growing in their areas of expertise. Attending the educational training/conferences would also allow Committee Members an opportunity to exchange ideas with other individuals throughout Miami-Dade County, state and other regions.
It is my opinion that the enhancement of volunteerism and continuing education of Committee Members is imperative to the improvement of residents’ quality of life.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Town Council adopt the attached Resolution, authorizing the Town Manager to expend funds for the reimbursement of travel costs for Committee Members.
