BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS
Municipal Home Rule, which is a component of Local Government Home Rule, is an important attribute of municipal government in Florida. Proposed Florida House Bill 17 threatens to diminish Municipal Home Rule by expressly preempting to the State the regulation of businesses, professions, and occupations. Opposition of House Bill 17 is a part of the Town of Cutler Bay Town Council’s Legislative Agenda.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Town Council adopt the attached Resolution, opposing Florida House Bill 17 and the preemption of the authority of local government.
