BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS

On September 21, 2016, the Town Council approved Resolution #16-54 to install outdoor fitness equipment at Blue Heron and Saga Lake Parks.  Dominica Recreation Products, Inc., a distributor for Game Time Playground Equipment was the selected vendor with a contract in the amount of $75,474.42.

On March 13, 2017, Parks and Recreation Director, Etienne Bejarano submitted a memo to the Town Manager requesting a revision of the Agreement with Dominica Recreation Products to install outdoor fitness equipment at Saga Bay Park instead of Saga Lake Park.  Mr. Bejarano stated that after further inspection of the existing stationary exercise equipment that already exists at Saga Lake Park, it would be more beneficial to the community if the new outdoor fitness equipment was installed at nearby Saga Bay Park (See Attachment “A”).  The equipment is sturdy and in good repair.  The Parks and Recreation Department’s maintenance team will clean and paint the equipment as needed.  By refreshing the current equipment at Saga Lake Park and installing new equipment at Saga Bay Park, the Town will increase the number of parks within the Town that has outdoor equipment.

On April 3, 2017, the Town Manager and Parks and Recreation Director attended the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee to discuss the proposed amendment.  The Committee unanimously agreed to the Town’s recommendation.

The proposed amendment will have no fiscal impact to the current contract with Dominica Recreation Products, Inc.  The cost of this project will remain $75,474.42. The Town is simply moving the site location from Saga Lake Park (SW 198 St and SW 79 Ave) to Saga Bay Park (SW 205 St and SW 80 Ave); less than one (1) mile away (See Attachment “B”).  The new installation of the outdoor fitness equipment planned for the following Town owned parks:

Ø                     Blue Heron Park

Ø                     Saga Bay Park

The following outdoor fitness equipment will be installed at each park location listed above (Attachment “C”):

Ø                     Assisted Step Trainer

Ø                     Chest Press

Ø                     Cardio Walker

Ø                     Leg Extension

Ø                     Recumbent Cycle

Ø                     Captain’s Chair

Ø                     Elliptical

Ø                     Hand Cycle

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the attached Resolution be adopted, authorizing the Town Manager to amend the Agreement with Dominica Recreation Products, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $75,474.42 for the installation of outdoor fitness equipment at Blue Heron Park and Saga Bay Park.
