A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF CUTLER BAY, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING A FISCAL YEAR 2014-15 AND A FISCAL YEAR 2015-16 MINI-GRANT FOR DISTRACTED DRIVING PREVENTION, THROUGH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAM (IPP) IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,000 PER YEAR FOR A TOTAL OF $10,000; AUTHORIZING THE TOWN MANAGER TO ACCEPT THE GRANT, AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

This project is offered by the Florida Department of Health (the "Department"), Injury Prevention Program through funding appropriated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Injury Prevention and Control pursuant to the authority of SEC 301, 317 & 391A, 42USC241, 247B & 280B-B3 and per Florida Statute 401.243. The Injury Prevention Program released a Request for Proposal (RFP) seeking qualified applicants to enter into a mini-grant agreement with the Department to implement community-based interventions that address at least one or more of three (3) priority focus areas; Child Drowning Prevention, Older Adults Fall Prevention, and Distracted Driving.
On August 14, 2013, the Town of Cutler Bay requested $5,000 to implement a Distracted Driving Campaign. This grant request was renewable for up to three (3) years based on the availability of funding and the Town's successful implementation of the program. Since the 2013-14 Fiscal Year, the Town has conducted an outreach campaign targeting drivers of all ages and that engages non-driving/under aged children/youth as advocates...
