Re:                      Appointing Member to fill vacant position on the Floodplain Mitigation Plan Committee

REQUEST

title

A resolution of the mayor and town council of the town of cutler bay, florida, to appoint A NEW MEMBER TO the  FLOODPLAIN MITIGATION PLAN COMMITTEE; and providing for an effective date.

body.

BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS

Appointments to the Floodplain Mitigation Plan Committee (the “Committee”) have been removed or resigned, resulting in vacant positions.  In order to fill the current vacancies, the Town Clerk’s Office posted an announcement on the Town’s website, for a period of forty-seven (47) days.  As a result of our outreach efforts, the Town received two (2) resumes from interested residents. In order to serve on the Committee, the resident must reside within the Special Flood Hazardous Area (the “SFHA”), as outlined in Town Resolution No. 13-56 (Attachment “A”).  Unfortunately, one of the residents does not reside with the SFHA, therefore only one resident meets the criteria. Additionally, Town staff along with the Town Consultant has developed the Mission, Goals, and Objectives (Attachment “B”) in order to meet and exceed the National Flood Insurance Program’s (the “NFIP”) Community Rating System standards.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Town Council adopt the Resolution appointing the new member to fill the vacant position on the Committee.
