A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF CUTLER BAY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION'S AGE-FRIENDLY CITIES AND COMMUNITIES PROGRAM AND APPROVING THE TOWN'S ENROLLMENT INTO THE AARP AGE FRIENDLY COMMUNITIES INITIATIVE; PROVIDING FOR TRANSMITTAL; PROVIDING FOR AUTHORIZATION; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS

During the December 2015 Communities for a Lifetime (CFAL) Committee meeting, the CFAL members received a presentation by the local AARP and reviewed supporting documentation about becoming a member of the "Network of Age-Friendly Communities" (Attachment "A").

The AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities is an affiliate of the World Health Organization's Age-Friendly Cities and Communities Program. The Network helps participating communities become great places for all ages by adopting features such as safe, walkable streets, better housing and transportation options, access to key services, and opportunities for residents to participate in community activities. Well-designed, livable communities promote health and sustain economic growth, and they make for happier, healthier residents of all ages.

The committee unanimously voted to encourage the Town to enroll in the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities. The first step of this process is to seek the approval of local elected officials (i.e. via Resolution or authorization letter from the Town Council) and to submit a copy of the executed Resolution along with the membership application to AARP (Attachment "B").
