BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS

Project Title:                       2020 Transportation Master Plan Update Project

Miami-Dade County’s (the “County”) Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) “SMART Moves Program” is a municipally administered program that assists the TPO in prioritizing and programming studies that support the implementation of complete streets, first/last mile connections, connected and autonomous vehicles, transit supportive projects, and other priority projects that enhance connectivity, accessibility, and integration of the County’s transit network.

 

On January 17, 2020, the Town of Cutler Bay (the “Town”) submitted a grant application requesting $100,000, on behalf of the Public Works Department.  On July 17, 2020, the TPO informed the Town that its’ application was approved to conduct the 2020 Transportation Master Plan Update Project.

 

 

 

The objective of the 2020 Transportation Master Plan Update Project is to conduct an analysis of the potential use of state-of-the-art technologies to support traffic counts, safety audits, and mitigate any threats to the Town’s transportation system.  In doing so, the results of the Project will provide Town Staff with a clear understanding of the regional origins and destinations of people moving to, from, and through the Town on their daily commutes. Additionally, the Project results will demonstrate how these movements and volumes currently impact the community’s multi-modal transit network and predict future impact as well. 

 

 

RECOMMENDATION

 

Town Staff recommends that the attached Resolution be adopted, accepting the TPO Grant for $100,000.00 for the 2020 Transportation Master Plan Update Project, approving the subsequent agreement, and authorizing the Town Manager to execute the interlocal agreement with Miami-Dade County TPO.
