RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF CUTLER BAY, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE AWARD OF GRANT FUNDING FROM THE CUTLER BAY COMMUNITY FUND TO CUTLER BAY HIGH IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,500 IN SUPPORT OF THE SCHOOL’S COAST PROGRAM AND TO CUTLER BAY MIDDLE SCHOOL IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,000 TO SUPPORT THE SCHOOL’S POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SYSTEM; PROVIDING FOR AUTHORIZATION; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BACKGROUND
On July 17, 2013, the Town of Cutler Bay entered into a contract agreement with the Miami Foundation to establish the “Cutler Bay Community Fund”. This donor advised fund allows the Town to support non-profit organizations that serve Cutler Bay residents. The mission of the Cutler Bay Community Fund “is to support nonprofit organizations that endeavor to improve the life of residents in the Town of Cutler Bay through educational, aesthetic (community beautification), environmental, cultural, social services and other philanthropic programs and services” (Attachment “A”: Resolution #13-57 and Community Fund Profile). As of September 30, 2015, the Cutler Bay Community Fund has accumulated a total of $14,978.16 (Attachment “B”: Financial Statement).
Since March 2014, the Town has received a total of four (4) funding requests as follows (Attachment “C”: Funding Requests)

Town staff has reviewed the funding requests and found that two (2) of the above mentioned projects are aligned with the Cutler Bay Community Fund’s strategic plan under the “Education” service category. The “Education” service category aims to impact student achievement by supporting 501(c)(3) organizations that serve both children and youth, from the time they enter daycare to completing grade twelve (12) that reside in or attend schools in Cutler Bay. Activities include, but are not limited to; out-of-school programs, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education, educational field trips, teacher incentive programs, curriculum enhancement/development activities, educational equipment/supplies, personal safety/prevention activities (i.e. anti-bullying, distracted driving awareness, abuse prevention), parenting skills training, life skills training, civic engagement, and college/career preparation. It is recommended that the Town approves the following two (2) funding requests from the Cutler Bay Community Fund; contingent upon the organizations’ ability to secure necessary match funding to complete the project.
• $ 5,000 to Cutler Bay Middle School - Positive Behavior System (PBS)
• $ 2,500 to Cutler Bay High School - “St. Ayles” Skiff Project
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Town Council approves the Resolution authorizing the Town Manager to award $5,000 to Cutler Bay Middle School for the Positive Behavior System and $ 2,500 to Cutler Bay High School for the “St Ayles” Skiff.
