title
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF CUTLER BAY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE TOWN OF SURFSIDE’S RESOLUTION URGING THE STATE OF FLORIDA LEGISLATURE AND THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION (“FDEP”) TO ESTABLISH CHEMICAL TESTING STANDARDS PRIOR TO ISSUING A COASTAL CONSTRUCTION CONTROL LINE (“CCCL”) PERMIT WHICH AUTHORIZES THE TRANSFER AND PLACEMENT OF EXCAVATED SAND SEAWARD OF THE CCL ONTO A PUBLIC BEACH; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
body
BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS
In February of 2015, the Town of Surfside passed unanimously a resolution, urging the State of Florida Legislature and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to establish chemical testing standards prior to issuing a coastal construction control line permit which authorizes the transfer and placement of excavated sand seaward of the coastal construction control line onto a public beach.
In April of 2015, the cities of Aventura and South Miami unanimously passed resolutions backing the Town of Surfside. As a recognized advocate for environmental issues, both within our town and across South Florida, I believe it would be appropriate for the Town of Cutler Bay, a recognized advocate for environmental issues, to join in expressing its support for this measure.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Town Council support the Town of Surfside's Resolution number 2282, and encourage other municipalities to do the same.
