Re: Opposing the Proposed Mixed-Use Development Along SW 152 Street and SW 127 Ave
REQUEST
title
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF CUTLER BAY, FLORIDA, OPPOSING THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT OF APPROXIMATELY 88 ACRES OF PINE ROCKLAND GENERALLY LOCATED ALONG S.W. 152 STREET AND S.W. 127TH AVENUE WITHIN UNINCORPORATED MIAMI-DADE COUNTY; PROVIDING FOR TRANSMITTAL; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
body
BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS
The location of the property is approximately 88 acres of forest land generally located along S.W. 152 Street and S. W. 127 Avenue in unincorporated Miami-Dade County which is to be developed as a Mixed Use Development. The property consists of one of the last intact tracts of endangered pine Rockland within Miami-Dade County. Rockland is a globally imperiled habitat containing an array of rare plants, animals and insects which are rare and exclusive to the habitat.
RECOMMENDATION
As an expression of the concern for the loss of this valuable Pine Rockland, I recommend that the Town Council approve the resolution "opposing" the development and direct the Town Clerk to transmit a copy of the resolution to the Board of the Miami-Dade County Commissioners and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
